Jo Halpin is a Dublin-based filmmaker with over eight years of experience in the Irish and international film industries. Her multifaceted career spans producing, assistant directing, writing, and directing, with credits on major productions including The Banshees of Inisherin, Kung Fu Deadly, Foundation, Gran Turismo, Disenchanted, and The Pope’s Exorcist.
A member of Screen Ireland’s X-Pollinator network, Screen Producers Ireland (SPI) and Women In Film & Television Ireland, Jo is currently being mentored by multi-award-winning producer Brian J. Falconer (Derry Girls, How To Make It To Heaven From Belfast).
In 2021, Jo earned a diploma in Advanced Producing from TU Dublin, deepening her knowledge in transforming scripts to screen-ready productions.
As an emerging writer-director, Jo’s storytelling is emotionally resonant, character-driven, and laced with humor. Her comedy-dramas Porter and Magic have both earned critical acclaim. At the Dublin International Comedy Film Festival, Magic won Best Actor (Killian Sundermann) and Best Actress (Ali Hardiman), and received nominations for Best Director (Jo Halpin) and Best Short Film. Porter won Best Short at the New Wave Festival.
In 2017, Jo co-founded Charmer Pictures, a female-led production company dedicated to creating daring, original, high-quality content. The company’s distinctive slate includes Pat, I Found A Place, Tar Anseo, and Shush – a 2024 RTÉ Storyland project. At the 2024 Women in Film and Television Awards, I Found A Place was awarded Best Cinematography.
Charmer Pictures has also produced the high-concept music video Anger for Nina Nesbitt, the visual album Pink Breath for Daughter of a Drum, and commercial work for major brands including Oatly and Aer Lingus. The company currently has three feature films in development – Baby, Duck Duck Goose, and Don’s Life Goes On – as well as a six-part comedy TV series titled The Pact.
